A £15Million hi-tech
animal hospital has been praised by Scotland’s Finance Secretary John Swinney
The facility, at Glasgow University’s Garscube Campus in Bearsden, has a range of
hi-tech features, including MRI and CT scanners and oncology and endoscopy suites.
Mr Swinney officially opened the centre, which also has a pain and rehabilitation
centre with a HYDRO PHYSIO underwater treadmill, plus four operating theatres.
Technik
Technology have also installed and manufactured all of the kennelling for the rehabilitation
area, which also included their tables and lighting.
Between 120 and 130 staff can
work at the centre, which is also equipped to provide radiotherapy and chemo¬therapy
to treat cancer in animals.
Mr Swinney toured the facility and afterwards stated:
“This is a world-class facility and it is a great compliment to the university that
it has brought together the necessary funding support to ensure we have such an
excellent care and research facility.
“It complements the reputation for veterinary
medicine expertise that the University of Glasgow commands."
Clare Knottenbelt, clinical
director at the hospital, said: “It’s a fabulous hospital. We have all the advanced
imaging facilities you would expect in a really high-quality hospital.
“We see about
11,000 animals per year in this hospital. It is the only hospital in the UK that
has all of these facilities under one roof and has been designed to have everything
very much together."
The building has won several architectural awards, including
the Royal Incorporation Of Architects in Scotland’s Andrew Doolan Best Building
in Scotland Award.
Technik Technology are very proud to have worked on this project
and be involved in such a prestigious building.

Perfect Partnership
with Technik Technologies
A new veterinary surgery has been opened in South Wales. Having been four years
in the process of design and acquisition of a suitable site, with the sole aim of
becoming “The best practice in Wales”, it comes as no surprise to learn that they
turned to Technik Technology to help them achieve this goal.
A significant increase in the number of customers, accompanied by a corresponding
increase in the need to refer patients for a range of specialised procedures, led
our customer to decide to relocate to much larger premises enabling most services
to be offered in-house.
With the aim of achieving hospital status they worked closely with both architects
and Technik Technology to ensure this would be achieved. The surgery now offers
dedicated dental, soft tissue and orthopaedic theatres serviced by a spacious preparation
and scrub area. The surgery also offers separate waiting and hospitalisation for
felines, canines and small furries.
Technik Technology were initially called upon to supply several items of specialised
equipment including lighting where their high quality, cost effective illumination
system was specified, along with fold down tables, consulting and operating tables,
sinks and kennels. Having previously worked with Technik Technology, the new veterinary
practice knew they could rely equally on the quality of Technik’s service as well
as the high standard of the products. “Our experience of working with Technik in
the past meant we knew that Technik Technology would be able to deliver the best
solution for us – combining value for money with technical expertise” says the owner.
“In fact, we were so confident of their capabilities we did not feel the need to
put the project out to tender.”
As the project evolved it soon became obvious that the benefits offered by the brushed
stainless steel used to manufacture Technik Technology’s’ equipment, such as increased
hygiene, reduction in cross contamination due to the easy-clean smooth surfaces
and not to mention the increased longevity, could be utilised in other areas of
the practice.
The architect had originally specified traditional wooden furniture with normal
kitchen worktops but Technik Technology’s brief soon grew to include the design
of specific furniture inclusive of the work surfaces, all custom built from stainless
steel to maximise the available space. Technik even designed a unique casing to
disguise the plumbing and electrics of certain pieces of equipment.
“We initially took the decision to extend the use of stainless steel for the hygienic
benefits we knew it could offer but it soon became apparent that it also improved
the feel of the surgery by creating a sleeker and more professional appearance,
not to mention the quality and robustness of the furniture which far exceeds that
of traditional wooden construction.”

Technik Tops the League
When a leading feline adoption centre needed to upgrade their maternity unit, they
turned to Shropshire based Technik Technology for the purrfect answer.
Needing to combine durability and practicality, the centre explained their requirements
to Technik Technology and the result is a superb new installation which can house
up to seven cats and their kittens.
As the centre’s Manager explains: “the old maternity units had given sterling service
but had come to the end of their time. The high grade stainless steel used in Technik’s
pens makes them extremely durable and a real long term investment. Not only that,
but they look good year after year. Technik’s attention to detail was also impressive:
pods are reached by a ramp - leaving the entire floor area free for inquisitive
kittens to explore and enjoy a great
quality of life (and enabling the mothers to enjoy a little peace and quiet); while
the superb build quality ensures that there are only flush surfaces, meaning that
thorough cleaning can be achieved quickly and efficiently on a daily basis. Even
the handles to the pens have been designed with thought, enabling staff to open
doors with their elbows if they happen to be carrying a lively cat.
“Technik also made the pens wider than standard to provide additional room for the
occupants.
“Being a charity that relies entirely on the public’s support makes it doubly important
to ensure that we get value for money and Technik’s pens certainly tick all the
boxes. They are robust, they help us to optimise the welfare of the cats and they
project exactly the right image when the public visit us. They also went down a
storm at our recent open day which is vital in generating the income required to
keep the site going.
